Windies claim shaky series win
by RivalsDM
After a four hour delay due to rain, the teams eventually took the field. The overs were reduced to 25 per side, with Bangladesh winning the toss and sending the West Indies in to bat.
The West Indies put up a poor performance, losing early wickets due to careless shots. Dwayne Smith made the biggest impact for the hosts, with 62 runs off 62 deliveries (2 fours and 2 sixes) not out. This was Smith's first one-day half-century and in the circumstances a most influential score..
Few if the other batsmen could match Smith and the next highest score came from Ricardo Powell, with a stop-start 20.
The West Indies posted 124/7 in their allotted overs and could not, as a result, feel sure in the second innings.
Tapash Baisya led the visitors' attack, bowling unbelievably well in taking his 4/16 after 5 overs. These were Baisya's best figures in one-day cricket, beating his previous best of 4/56.
The Bangladesh side did not make the most of the opportunity presented to them in the second innings.
Opener Hannan Sarkar played a vital roll in the chase. He built some momentum with a knock of 36 off 55 deliveries, but was crucially caught by Dwayne Smith off Ian Bradshaw's bowling and could not go on. With little leadership from the visitors' top order, the lower order were left to meet an escalating required run rate.
Number seven batsman Manjural Islam Rana fought his heart out, but could not turn the tide. He finished the innings with an unbeaten 33 runs.
Bradshaw had the most say in the second innings and his 3/15 in five overs effectively won the series for the West Indies . Smith was named man of the match for his fireworks with the bat.
