FOXSports.com has learned that Ken Schrader will substitute for Brad Coleman in the No. 96 ride this weekend at Bristol. The journeyman racer was selected for this weekend's race in the hopes that he can help the third-year organization figure out what problems they are having this season.
"Ken Schrader has a lot of experience at Bristol and we felt with as competitive as the field will be this weekend, he gives us the best chance to be successful," said Tom Garfinkel, co-owner of Hall of Fame Racing, in a release. "Brad Coleman will test for us next week at Kansas Speedway and we plan on having Brad compete in more races throughout the remainder of the year. We look forward to working with Brad as he continues to gain experience at the Sprint Cup level."
Just last week, Coleman was tabbed to replace J.J. Yeley full-time in the ride. He is expected to remain the full-time driver for Hall of Fame Racing the rest of the season.
Schrader, 53, is in his 25th season of competition in the Cup Series. In 722 career races, he has four victories, 64 top-fives and 184 top-10s. This year, he has participated in five races, with a best finish of 21st at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and has failed to qualify for four more starts.
It has not been a very impressive season for Hall of Fame Racing. Despite starting the season inside the top 35 in owner points, the outfit fell outside the comfort zone which led to Yeley's ouster. They are currently 40th in the owner standings, 279 points behind the 35th-place No. 66 Haas Racing team, which means Schrader will have to qualify for this weekend's race based on time as he does not have a guaranteed starting spot.
Road-course ringer P.J. Jones piloted the ride at Watkins Glen International two races ago.
