One of the Green Bay Packers' most explosive offensive weapons has returned to the team.

No, it's not that one. FOXSports.com has learned that the team has agreed to a contract extension with absent running back Ryan Grant.

Agent Alan Herman said Grant has agreed to a four-year deal that could be worth up to $30 million, with much of the money coming in performance-based escalators. Grant will make $4.25 million this season.

Grant exploded onto the scene last year with 956 yards on 188 carries and eight touchdowns in 15 games.

Grant, 26, has yet to show up to training camp, and he was seeking a substantial raise to be the featured back in the Packers offense.

Grant is an exclusive-rights free agent but refused to sign his tender offer from the team in hopes of working out a long-term deal.

"We never approached this with the idea of breaking the bank and treating it as an unrestricted situation, because it isn't," Herman said.

Grant and Herman plan to be in Green Bay on Sunday to review and sign the contract. Grant could report to camp in time for Sunday's "Family Night" scrimmage at Lambeau Field, although it is unclear whether he would practice right away.

Grant, acquired by the Packers in a trade with the New York Giants just before the start of last season, became the starter in the second half of the season and rushed for 956 yards and eight touchdowns. He added 201 yards and three touchdowns in Green Bay's playoff victory over Seattle.

Grant participated in the Packers' offseason workout program but sat out offseason practices because he didn't have a deal in place.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

There wasn't a doubt in my mind that the Pack would sign Grant. The Pack as an organization one of it's objectives is to save money. So, it's a dealing process with player agents. I would not go so far as to say they didn't want to pay him. It would have been nice to see him in camp on day one. It's just a part of the process. I hope with Rodgers ability to run that we might see a little more excitement with some option ideas.

The Packers were 8-1 before Grant started a game. He added another dimension. I think the Packers shot themselves in the foot by offering Brett $25M not to play. How were they supposed to negotiate after that?

Grant talked a lot of crap to get this new contract he better back it up, I bet he won't or will end up in injury like alexander did.

Grant played great the second-half of the season, which was the only time he saw play time. I think its too early for him to have a hold out but green bay did the right thing by making him EARN most of the money. Contract is worth 30mil. he better produce. He is easily a 1200yd back and if Rodgers is the starter he will be at the 1500yd mark. But what are the Packers going to do with Farve. Is he going to start? be traded? or a 12mil. backup on the bench?

I suspect grant really is just a one year wonder. But there aren't any backs that can face 8 and 9 fronts. That's why the weight falls on the QB to spread them out.

everybody thinks ryan grant is so good we will see how he does now when he faces 8 and 9 fronts why do you think he was on the giants practice squad one year wonder

Great signing for the Packers. He will only be as good as his offensive line will let him be. Grant actually showed up in the playoffs (Seattle Game) unlike LT which ha NOT shown up at a playoff game except to chase Patriots players off the Chargers Logo.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I looked it up after posting my original comment and he only started 7 games for the Packers last season. How bad does his yardage look now??? Care to project how that total would be if he started all 16 games? I'll give you a hint...it would be more than double his 956 yards and would have made him the league's leading rusher. That's not to say he would have hit that yardage total, but 1700+ yards is even a lot!

bwheels. you are talking out of your a*s! Your lack of football knowledge is almost humorous. If you talk like a know it all, you should at least have your facts straight. Ryan Grant only started 8 games and was literally in on a handful of snaps before he was named the starter as he started out as the 4th string running back.

He had a 5.1yd per rush average and in the 8 games that he started, he had more yards rushing than everyone else not named LT. Yes, that's right, even Adrian Peterson. Get a clue before you spout off with your crap!
